Jock began his career in advertising as Copywriter at BBDO in 1945; after promotions to Account Executive and Management Supervisor, he became a Vice President (1956) and Director (1958).

After he joined Ogilvy & Mather in 1960, as Senior Vice President and Director, his responsibilities included management supervision of a number of accounts. He was elected Chairman of O&M in 1965 and held the position for ten years. He succeeded David Ogilvy as Chairman of Ogilvy & Mather International in 1975.
