Comparing Sky Sports and BBC Sport websites

Using MediaZ, its media brand health study, MEC examined the audience traits & perceived characteristics of the Sky Sports and BBC Sport websites

Sport has always been a great British pastime; we watch it, we play it and we support it. We hosted the Olympic Games in 2012, made history by retaining the Ashes with our third consecutive win, and we have watched Andy Murray finally win Wimbledon for Britain after 77 years.

Online is an important channel for accessing sports content. More than 27 million people in the UK – 54% of all UK mobile phone users – accessed the internet via a mobile device at least once a month in 2012. eMarketer expects this to rise to 82% by 2017. Therefore, it is not surprising that 4.7 million people downloaded a sports app on their phone in the 12 months from April 2012 to March 2013 and 1.6 million have downloaded one on their tablet (TGI).
