1. Atlas Shrugged

By Ayn Rand
Published by Penguin Modern Classics, 2007.
First published 1957

My induction to Ayn Rand was a life-changing experience. In college, I was mesmerised by Atlas Shrugged. As a woman in early 20th-century America, struggling with imperfect English, and through her perseverance and belief in her philosophy, Rand transformed the modern attitude towards achievement and success. A mystery story about the rebirth of a man's spirit, and a manifestation of Rand's Objectivism, Atlas Shrugged has been the guiding light in my career.

2. Winning

By Jack Welch
Published by HarperCollins, 2006

Probably the best MBA course in one book. The world's most successful chief executive guides the reader through the challenges that face them every day. What's unique about this book is the simplicity and clarity he brings to each challenge, making it seem so easy. His wisdom, experience and talent set him apart from anyone else on Earth.
