DH Hep (C) – Hepititus C Asian campaign

Saad Saraf – Media Reach Advertising

CONTEXT

Hepatitis C is a blood-borne virus that can cause chronic infection and lead to serious liver damage. It is mainly spread by contact with the blood of someone who has the infection. Many people are unaware that they have hepatitis C, as symptoms often do not occur for many years.

Emerging evidence from UK blood donor screening suggests that people of South Asia origin, particularly those from countries with a high prevalence of HCV like Pakistan may be at an increased risk of infection.

OBJECTIVES OF CAMPAIGN

  • Raise awareness of Hepatitis C and its prevention, diagnosis and treatment amongst the South Asian community

  • Tackle the stigma attached to HCV within the community without causing alarm
