Digital Matters 2012

Summary
This paper reports on a light-hearted global survey into consumers’ digital-media behaviours and attitudes, by asking them which of two choices they would prefer to give up. These include: talking on the phone vs in person; text messaging vs speaking on the phone; having a computer vs having a phone; and using social networks vs watching TV. It also asked respondents whether they agreed with a set of statements regarding PC use for entertainment, checking on friends using social networks and sharing their lives online. Top-line national differences are discussed.

Summary
This report from the Digital Matters 2012 conference in Singapore is based on an address by Brian Taptich, Vice President of International Development at the social gaming company, Zynga. He describes Zynga's rapid growth since its inception in 2007 (it has nearly 300m monthly active users) and outlines its six "pillars" to ensure "player delight" (Access, Localisation, Payments, Customer Service, Community Management and Content). He also discusses how Zynga's highly engaged players and its intrinsically social nature has attracted brands to its platforms, illustrating their involvement with mini case studies of how Coke Zero, Best Buy and McDonald's have all harnessed CityVille.
