‘No Interest in Carlton Television,’ Insists German Bank

24 January 2003

German bank WestLB on Thursday refuted reports it was planning a £1 billion ($1.63bn; €1.51bn) takeover bid for Carlton Communications (with Granada Media one of the two TV companies controlling Britain's ITV network).

According to the rumour [WAMN: 14-Jan-03], the bank was acting in concert with US media titan Viacom.

The rumour, if unfounded, could be a hare set running by interests eager to toss a spanner into the works of the agreed £2.6 billion Carlton-Granada merger which awaits approval by competition authorities.
