Yellow M, agency of record for Britain’s Conservative Party for the last six months, is facing an uncertain future after learning that the party’s Central Office has been talking with other shops about its £10 million account.
Ad industry weekly Campaign reports that it has spoken with three agencies approached by the party, which is said to be drawing-up a pitch list. Not so, insists a Tory spoke: "That is categorically untrue."
Yellow M’s work for the party to date has been aggressive, emphasising New Labour’s broken promises and enquiring: “Is this what you voted for?”. One ad pictured Tony Blair with the caption ‘Bliar’.
Yellow M may have little to fear. Onlookers believe that competition for the account is likely to be scant - some agencies viewing it as poisoned chalice, given the odds against the Conservatives winning the next general election.
