Yahoo Joins With IBM to Challenge Google

ARMONK, New York: Google's undisputed supremacy in the world of internet search is under challenge from a powerful new combo - IBM and Yahoo - who between them have developed IBM OmniFind Yahoo Edition.

IOFYE melds Yahoo's software for searching the web with a leaner version of an IBM product that enables company employees to conduct searches of internal computer files.

According to Forrester Research analyst Matt Brown, the free IBM/Yahoo product "packs the same features" as Google's Mini search products costing between $2,000 and $10,000.

Google enterprise search manager Matthew Glotzbach told the Wall Street Journal he was "not aware" of the new competitor - and proceeded to plug the success of his employer's own offerings.
