World Economy Indicators

Q3 GDP Growth
The US economy surged by an annualised 8.2% in the third quarter -- the fastest rate of expansion for nearly twenty years. The Commerce Department raised growth figures from last month's estimates of 7.2% after corporate America posted a 10.6% surge in total after-tax profits for the quarter, the biggest increase for a decade.
A separate report from the Conference Board suggests the future is bright too. The research group's closely watched consumer confidence index jumped from 81.7 in October to 91.7 this month as Americans saw a long-awaited improvement in the jobs market.

Business Confidence
The Ifo economic institute's index of west German business confidence climbed to 95.7 in November from 94.3 the month before. This was the seventh successive increase in the index -- the longest unbroken rise since 1999.
