November Manufacturing
The Confederation of British Industry recorded an upturn in UK manufacturing for November. A survey of business leaders found improving conditions in the sector, while a measure of total orders rose from an October low of -40 to -24.
The CBI hiked its 2003 growth forecast to 2% (up from an earlier prediction of 1.8%) and its 2004 guidance to 2.8% (from 2.4%). However, it warned that manufacturing conditions are "still tough".

2004 GDP Growth
America's National Association for Business Economists is forecasting strong economic growth for 2004. A survey of economists suggests GDP will rocket 4.5% next year -- the fastest rate for two decades. Productivity will rise 3.7%, but there will be little impact on employment -- the jobless rate is expected to fall only marginally from 6% to 5.8%.
