Woolworth and Argos Dump Sky’s Interactive Shopping Channel

22 January 2002

Two of Britain's high street retail giants, Woolworth and Argos, have given Sky Digital notice of their intention to quit its interactive shopping channel at the end of this month. Both were founder-participants in the service when it launched as Open two years ago.

Argos, a unit of Great Universal Stores, last week unveiled bumper Christmas sales but has failed to achieve similar success with its online operations. The pull-out from Sky is reportedly due to a reappraisal of its internet and interactive strategy.

Cash-strapped Woolworth, according to a report in the Independent on Sunday, simply found the Sky service “too expensive”.
