Walsh Sacrifices Life of Leisure to Run Red Cell Europe

WPP Group's Red Cell network has appointed Amanda Walsh chief executive of its European operations as of May 1. Based in London she will report to Red Cell worldwide chairman/ceo Andy Berlin in New York.

Walsh (45) has been out of the ad business for over a year after quitting the ceo's chair at the London independent shop she co-founded in 1995, Walsh Trott Chick Smith.

Why Walsh? Says Berlin: " Amanda's very special presence, her experience with clients and as a manager will ensure that our client-facing offer is on the mark. She is both an entrepreneur and someone who cares deeply about the brilliance and originality of the creative product, which after all, is what we're about."

Walsh too oozed schmooze: "I knew nothing about Red Cell but I've since discovered that it's almost like a start-up that is full of entrepreneurial people. It feels very uncorporate."

The Red Cell network extends to sixty agencies in 35 national markets. Coca-Cola, Diageo, Alfa Romeo, Nextel, Nike, Pfizer, Unilever and Hewlett-Packard are numbered among its clients.
