WPP and Interpublic’s New Media Networks Reach Spain

09 January 2002

The manoeuvrings of global ad giants will result in the launch of two new media agencies in Spain this month.

One will be MediaEdge: CIA, the network spawned by the merger of WPP Group and Tempus Group. In charge of the agency in Spain and Portugal will be Antonio Ruiz, previously CIA president in the region, with Miguel Garcia, former managing director at CIA, taking the same post at the combined entity.

MediaEdge: CIA offices in Madrid and Barcelona will be headed by Jose Maria Guijarro (previously in charge of The Media Edge in Spain) and Philipp Furst (former director of CIA Barcelona) respectively.

The other new shop will be Magna Global, Interpublic Group’s centralised media network, already up and running in America, Germany and the UK. Its Spanish incarnation will represent a merger of Universal McCann, Initiative Media and CICM (a unit of FCB Tapsa).

In charge of Spain’s Magna Global will be Manuel Olivas, who moves from head of media buying at Carat's Spanish operations. He will be supported by senior executives from the three shops being merged.

Magna Global will become Spain’s biggest media planning and buying entity, claiming around 20% of the total market, with MediaEdge: CIA in third.
