BRUSSELS: The World Federation of Advertisers, the industry body, has appointed Chris Burggraeve, the chief marketing officer of Anheuser-Busch InBev, as its new president.
Burger King, Diageo and Unilever are among the members of the WFA, which represents companies responsible for around $700bn (€521bn; £455bn) in marketing expenditure worldwide each year.
Prior to joining A-B InBev in 2007, Burggraeve was group marketing director for Coca-Cola's operations in the European Union, and he has also worked in brand management and innovation for Procter & Gamble.
He takes over the presidency of the WFA from Bernhard Glock, the former vice president and global head of media at P&G, and who is now chief executive of the Media Leadership Company.
"It is a great honour to be heading up this unique organisation at such an exciting time. New technologies are revolutionising the way consumers and marketers interact," said Burggraeve.
"The WFA will be at the forefront of helping marketers to be more effective and efficient, while ensuring they maintain their social license to operate from society at large."
Stephen Kehoe, vp, public and government affairs at PepsiCo, was also voted in as the WFA's deputy president at its annual general meeting, where Burggraeve was named as president.
