WebRewards.com has announced it will follow rival internet rewards scheme Beenz.com into the bricks-and-mortar environment [WAMN: 19-Oct-00], offering points for products in the real world.

The news accompanies the purchase of 70% of the company by Bertelsmann Services Group , a major European loyalty scheme specialist.

The offline service will launch within twelve months. As with the Beenz scheme, redemption of points accrued offline by subscribers will remain an online activity.

Said WebRewards’ joint managing directors, Mark Read and Gary Morrison: “We are delighted to have an investment from such a strong partner as Bertelsmann … [whose] offline expertise will substantially strengthen our position in the market.”
