Verizon Offers YouTube Videos on US Cellphones

29 November 2006

NEW YORK: US telco Verizon Wireless has inked an agreement to allow its cellphone users to view YouTube videos on the move. The partnership marks the first big distribution deal for the cult video-sharing website since its acquisition by Google [WARC News: 10-Oct-06].

YouTube is attempting to extend the reach of its mainly user-generated videos beyond PCs.

Verizon will get exclusive access to the content for a "limited" time after the service launches next month. The website, meanwhile, says it plans to "roll out more exciting partnerships and features for the mobile user over the coming year".
