Universal McCann Promotes Kent as First Global Prez

13 December 2000

Pan-planet media planning/buying shop Universal McCann has created the new position of president, appointing Robin Kent as first incumbent.

Kent, currently based in London as Universal’s regional director for Europe Africa and the Middle East, will work closely with and report to UM chairman Ira Carlin.

Says Carlin: “When Universal McCann was launched last year … we believed then, as we do now, that the highest levels of expertise and clout could be achieved as a media specialist while also finding a way to elevate media strategically within the entire brand-building and communications management process."

It is this last factor – the strategic elevation of media – that led to Kent’s new appointment. He is personally credited with the successful independent development of UM’s European media business from that of its creative sibling McCann-Erickson, and is now charged to replicate the process across the globe. His successor in the European role has yet to be announced.

Universal McCann claims global billings of over $15 billion and employs a worldwide community of over 3,400 in more than 130 countries.
