US Commercials Actors Start Pay Talks

14 April 2006

Unions representing US actors are debating with the advertising industry the appointment of an independent arbitrator to look at payments for commercials appearances.

An option currently under discussion is a coperative study by the Joint Policy Committee on Broadcast Talent Union Relations, the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

If this is agreed an independent consultant will examine remuneration for appearances on the web, on cellphones and via podcasts, reflecting the increasingly diverse ways advertising is delivered.

The current contracts are due to end October 29.

Both sides said their initial meeting on April 11 was a full and fair discussion of the issues and they have agreed to hold further talks shortly.
