US Cable Firms Launch Cellphone Offers

15 November 2006

RESTON, Virginia: America's biggest cable providers have finally launched their much-anticipated cellphone services, more than a year after their tie-up with telco Sprint.

Comcast, Time Warner, Cox and Advance Newhouse are adding mobile services to their TV/internet/home phone bundles [WARC News: 04-Nov-05] to compete with AT&T and Verizon.

They hope the new offering will stand out for ease-of-use and will allow subscribers to watch live TV, program DVRs and check home email and voice mail on the move.

The cable companies will require users to buy at least one other service, such as broadband or video, before they can sign up for wireless.
