UNILEVER, never prone to rush into the new media fray, is testing the temperature of the Internet waters with two Web advertising deals in the USA. America Online and the Microsoft Network have both contracted to carry ads for up to one hundred Unilever brands, in deals said to be worth a combined $32m over three years – petty cash in terms of Unilever's overall US ad budget! In the UK, the top ten Web advertisers (including BT, Durex, Legal & General and Microsoft) spent between them a mere £424,000 in April - less than the daily revenue of a single national newspaper.
