UK Supermarket Chain Muscles into Selling Houses

12 July 2006

LEEDS - Asda, the UK arm of US retail giant Wal-Mart, has launched a home-selling service that might inject a degree of overdue professionalism into the morass of inefficiency associated with traditional real estate agencies.

Branded Homes@Supermarkets, the service is the first to sell property onsite in a supermarket, enabling shoppers to look for a new home while they buy their groceries.

The project is currently being piloted at ten Asda stores in north east England and, if successful, will roll-out nationwide early next year.
