LONDON: Figures released Wednesday by the UK Outdoor Advertising Association indicate that revenues soared to a record £257 million ($5.02m; €3.82m) in the final quarter of 2006. Of that total almost £9m was allocated to digital displays.
Whooped Alan James, OAA chief executive: "For the eighteenth consecutive quarter, outdoor has posted a year-on-year increase - something only the internet can match."
The leading outdoor advertiser by spend during the quarter was BSkyB, up 67% to £6.6m, with Vodafone in second place at £6.1m. Ranked respectively third, fourth and fifth were 20th Century Fox, Coors and Orange .
Expenditure on digital displays reached its highest-yet level at £8.7m, a year-on-year increase of 17%.
