UK Online Adspend to Top £300m in 2003

18 December 2003

UK online advertising is expected to top £300 million ($527m; €426m) in 2003, a rise of more than £100m on 2002.

The latest report from Britain's Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers reveals that internet adspend in the first half of the year stood at £151.6m, up 85% year-on-year.

The third quarter was also thought to be strong, leaving online revenues on course for a full-year total of over £300m. All of which means the web now accounts for 2% of total adspend -- a target originally set for autumn 2004.

"Audiences have switched to online and marketers are following," declared IAB chief executive Danny Meadows-Klue. "The internet has become a mainstream media channel and these record breaking levels are a watershed that cannot be matched by any other media."
