UK Government Adman Aids IPA's Ethnic Equality Drive

05 March 2004

Senior campaign manager Mehboob Umarji from COI Communications (the administrative interface between the British government and its roster of advertising and marketing agencies) has been seconded to the nation's Institute of Practitioners in Advertising.

He will lead and energize a drive to recruit more agency staff from ethnic minorities, at the same time investigating whether young people from such backgrounds apply for careers in advertising. And, if not, why not.

Umarji will also meet senior agency executives to discuss recruitment policy and encourage them to sign up to the IPA's Ethnic Diversity Project.

Says, COI chief executive Alan Bishop: "It is important that we address the diversity issue in a number of ways, both in recruitment and in targeting communications."
