UK Consumers Embrace Internet Shopping

08 October 2004

The comfort of online shopping is fast winning over UK consumers.

Figures from market researcher BMRB's Internet Monitor survey show that 16 million shoppers have bought goods and services via their computer, the highest level yet, with the average spend over the last six months being £605.

Total annual internet expenditure is now around £19.4m ($34m, €27.5) – 10% more than in August last year.

Hopes of snapping up a bargain drive shoppers to internet auctioneer eBay, which tops the list of 'most visited' sites, followed by book and entertainment goods store Tesco is the most visited supermarket site.
