Two Million Britons Sample Podcasting, Reports RAJAR

LONDON: According to the latest quarterly data from UK radio measurement body RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research), almost two million adults have listened to a radio programme downloaded to their MP3 player.

According to RAJAR, the 1.9m people who have sampled podcasting account for 14.8% of MP3 owners. A quarter of the UK's population or 12.8m adults now own an MP3 player

Adults able to listen to radio via digital platforms have increased from 25.5m in Q1 this year to 27.1m in the second quarter. And all digital platforms have seen an increase on Q1 with DAB (digital audio broadcast) penetration up from 13.6% to 15.3% of all households.

Online listening has also increased, with the proportion of Britons who have listened to radio via the web up from 20.8% to 22.8%. Those who listened via digital TV have also increased, from 36.5% to 38.9%; while the number who tuned-in by cellphone is up from 8.8% to 9.7%.
