LONDON: The ceo of Britain's largest newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror Group, Sly (Sylvia) Bailey, was rewarded to the tune of £1.47 million ($2.8m; €2.1m) last year, a remuneration package which included a £755,000 bonus, despite an operating profits fall of 15%.
The company owns around 250 national and regional titles.
A spokesman commented: "Last year was a very difficult year for the newspaper industry, with a sharp fall in advertising volumes.
"In the light of that, the board and the remuneration committee thought the executive directors had performed very creditably to mitigate the impact on the group's profitability."
