Trinity Mirror Announces On-Target Revenues

Trinity Mirror, the UK’s largest newspaper publisher, yesterday announced that revenues for 2000 were in line with expectations and forecast a “satisfactory performance” in the coming year.

Trinity, whose preliminary results are expected in March, added that the first half of 2000 was better than the second, although trading had improved in the last two months of the year.

The group’s five national newspapers saw ad revenues rise 5% in the first six months, but only 0.6% in the second half. Circulation revenues also fell 1.1% in the third and fourth quarters.

The Sunday People, The Mirror and Sunday Mirror all experienced a slight loss in market share over the course of the second half, although Scottish titles Daily Record and Sunday Mail both increased their slices of Scotland's tabloid cake.

Trinity’s regional newspapers saw a 4.2% rise in ad revenues in the second half, despite a decline in circulation that reflected a general fall in regional newspaper readership.
