Television and Outdoor Benefit as China’s Adspend Soars

30 April 2004

Television advertising in China witnessed a 47% rise in the first quarter reaching 50.5 billion yuan ($6bn; €5.1bn;£3.9bn). Outdoor hit 1.4 bn yuan, a 42% increase.

Overall adspend totalled 60.95bn yuan, a year on year rise of 44 %, according to CVSC-TNS Research.

Media buyers attribute the rises in television spend to government cuts in commercial airtime, resulting in stations hiking rates by as much as 80%.

Advertisers forced out of the increasingly expensive TV sector have opted instead for outdoor.
