Following publication of the latest report from the Committee for Monitoring Agreements on Tobacco Advertising & Sponsorship, the tobacco industry has denied government claims that breaches of the voluntary agreement on advertising doubled last year. The Department of Health, which sits on the committee with representatives from the tobacco industry, says the number of direct breaches of the agreement on advertising is 30, compared with fifteen last year. John Carlisle, spokesman for the Tobacco Manufacturers' Association attributed the figures to the fact that restrictions on shopfront advertising were not included in last year's report.
