DOUBTING THOMASES who assume the Internet is little more than wild hype, should ponder a report just published by the US Department of Commerce. This compares the growth of the Net with that of radio and TV: the former took 38 years to gain 50 million listeners in the US, the latter 13 years to hook 50 million viewers. The Internet has achieved 50 million US users in just four years since the birth of the browser in 1994 - with usage doubling every 100 days!
