UP TO 90% OF UK homes will be covered in a national rollout of the Tesco Direct online home shopping service. It will be phased through this year creating a claimed 7,000 new jobs [perpetuating the myth that supermarkets create jobs - despite the National Retail Planning Forum's estimate of a net global loss of 276 jobs for every new supermarket].

The scheme has been piloted in 100 participating stores in London and the south-east for almost four years, with deliveries charged at a flat rate of £5 anywhere within a 25-minute drive of each outlet. The rollout will start in Cornwall and spread to two hundred additional outlets, bringing 300 of Tesco's 647 stores online by the year end.
