Starcom Global Chief Takes a Sabbatical

12 June 2008

NEW YORK: Starcom MediaVestGroup has named Laura Desmond as its new global ceo, following the announcement that incumbent Renetta McCann (pictured) is taking a year's sabbatical starting January 2009.

McCann is taking a break to give "full attention" to "some family matters and personal goals". She will spend the next six months helping Desmond with her transition into the top job, from her current role as ceo of SMG's Americas unit.

Says Desmond: "I had not been expecting to fill the global ceo role at this point in my career ... I have tremendously large shoes to fill without a doubt, but I also have powerful momentum to build on."

It is not clear what McCann will do on her return to the fold but it is likely she will be involved in finding new talent.
