Springtime for US Magazine Ads

Although recent weather stateside has been far from Spring-like, the green shoots of advertising dollars have thrust through the frosted earth of US magazine publishing, growing by a fecund 9.1% in March, the fifth month of successive increases, reports the Publishers Information Bureau in New York.

Ad pages rose last month in nine of twelve mainstream categories, the largest increase coming from drugs and remedies, up 32.1% (attributable perhaps to the unspringlike weather).

Across Q1 2003 as a whole, magazine ad pages rose year-on-year by 5.3%.
