The $40 million international communications account for DaimlerChrysler’s Smart car has been handed to Hamburg’s Springer & Jacoby.

The agency takes over from incumbent Weber Hodel Schmid next year. This is not the first time DaimlerChrysler and Springer & Jacoby have done business; the shop also oversees the German account for the car giant's Mercedes-Benz marque.

Springer & Jacoby is expected to extend its grip on the the Mercedes account across Europe, financing the expansion via its recent sale of a 35% stake to True North [WAMN: 11-Sep-00].
