Acquisitive German agency Scholz & Friends has bought London media planning and buying shop CKMP – its second UK purchase this year. The amount paid was not stated.

There are no client conflicts: CKMP numbers the British Egg Council, Pfizer and Arm & Hammer among its clientele; while Scholz’ UK portfolio includes Bryant & May, Cable & Wireless, CNBC, Davidoff cigars and Lufthansa Airline.

CKMP will operate in concert with the German company’s earlier British buy, London healthcare agency Herman Beasley, under the shared banner of Scholz London. Roger Parkyn and John Kennedy, respectively chairman and managing director of CKMP, are appointed strategic planning director and creative planning director of the combined company.

Explains Kate Robertson, Scholz London's chief executive: “Our big lack was in strategic planning and CKMP has always been a serious, thorough and planning-led agency.” Scholz will now concentrate on developing its e-business and direct marketing functions, especially with existing clients. "We need to improve the quality of our revenue base," said Robertson. "57% of our business is advertising, but it should be down to 35% or 40%."
