Royal Mail to Raise Second-Class UK Postage Rates

22 December 2003

Second-class and international postage rates in the UK are set to rise by a penny next year.

Postal quasi-monopoly Royal Mail plans to raise the price of a second-class stamp to £0.21 ($0.37; €0.30), up from the current £0.20. The change, scheduled for April, is expected to contribute an extra £70 million a year for the ailing mail delivery firm as it continues to restructure.

International rates will also go up, but first-class stamps will stay at £0.28.
