Roles for Gillette Execs in Merger with P&G

In preparation for their forthcoming union, Procter & Gamble has announced that several Gillette executives will play pivotal roles in the future combined business.

Senior management posts in the merged company are announced for Mary Ann Pesce, who will assume the role of president of new business development, and Bruce Cleverly, named president of global oral care.

Cleverly keeps the same job title and will also oversee incoming Gillette brands. Pesce (49), currently presides over Gillette's global personal care division. The mastermind behind development of the Venus razor for women, she will focus on expanding this brand in her new role.

Several other Gillette executives will assist in transitional roles, including vice-chairman Ed DeGraan and chief financial officer Charles Cramb.

Before closing, the merger requires regulatory approval from the US Federal Trade Commission, which might require the companies to divest certain businesses such as some oral-care brands.

P&G has already offered to sell its Crest Spinbrush business, among others. Former FTC member of staff, David Balto, however believes this may not be enough and that the Oral-B brand may have to be jettisoned in the US.
