Risk Officer Appointment Created at Interpublic

09 December 2002

Interpublic Group is bolstering its top financial team with a new appointment after the recent revelation of accounting problems at its McCann-Erickson WorldGroup unit.

Thomas Dowling, formerly IPG senior vp–financial administration, has been named chief risk officer, answerable to the holding company’s chief financial officer. As a failsafe measure, he will also report direct to Interpublic’s board in matters concerning financial controls, in a bid to avoid a repeat of recent problems.

Dowling will oversee the integration into a single operation of IPG’s risk management activities, such as its internal audit.
