Private-Equity Consortium Set to Counter-Bid for Univision

17 May 2006

LOS ANGELES - The USA's dominant Spanish-language television broadcaster Univision Communications, currently the object of a bid by Mexican media giant Grupo Televisa with four private-equity allies [WAMN: 15-May-06], is also the target of a second private equity pack.
The latest Latin Lover, an all-American quartet comprising Texas Pacific Group, Thomas H. Lee Partners, Madison Dearborn Partners and Providence Equity Partners, will seek to portray itself to the Univision board as more likely than their rivals to complete the deal.
They argue that US restrictions on foreign ownership of media companies could complicate any bid in which Televisa is a player.
