Porsche to Spice Up Luxury SUV Market with Cayenne

23 August 2002

German automaker F Porsche – best known for its iconic sports cars – is to move into the mainstream with a sports utility vehicle.

Branded Cayenne, the luxury SUV is designed to drive the firm’s growth and take on BMW’s X5 and Mercedes-Benz’s M-Class. It will cost in the region of €60,000 ($58,600; £38,365).

Porsche, a firm advocate of under-promising and over-delivering, predicts production of 25,000 Cayennes a year, even though analysts expect actual demand to be much higher.
