Pepico’s Walkers Crisps Outsells All Other UK Brands

29 August 2003

Despite high profile government health campaigns warning of the health and obesity hazards attributed to fat and salt-abundant foods, Britain's highest-selling brand is PepsiCo-owned Walkers Crisps.

In a survey published this week by Marketing magazine, Walkers tops the 2002 Biggest Brands league with core brand sales of £245 million ($383.92m; €354.67m). The runner-up is Lever Fabergé detergent brand Persil whose strapline ‘For Love, Life and Laundry’ helped propel it to national sales of £215m.

Walkers also scooped the ‘top fmcg launch’ accolade with its Sensations brand range, achieving sales of £65m – twice those of second-placed Diet Coke with Lemon.
