Paris Awards Outdoor Ads Contract to JCDecaux

07 February 2007

PARIS: The battle between JCDecaux and Clear Channel for the outdoor advertising and street furniture contract in Paris has been won by the French firm. The decision, which still needs to be rubber-stamped by the city's administration, overturns an earlier vote in favour of the US-headquartered company.

The 10-year contract, which stipulates a free bicycle rental network, was awarded to Somupi (jointly owned by JCDecaux and Publicis Groupe) after its parent filed a complaint with the Administrative Court of Paris in October, claiming the procedure for attributing the tender was "legally fragile".

Clear Channel, which was working with a number of partners on the bid, says it is "amazed that there could be such a reversal of the situation in such a short time".
