P&G Splits $256m German Media Planning Duties between Starcom and MediaCom

14 June 2001

Following consolidation of its French duties [WAMN: 12-Jun-01], Procter & Gamble has split its $256 million German media planning business (P&G’s biggest in Europe) between MediaCom of Düsseldorf and Starcom in Frankfurt.

Losing out is Zenith Media, also in Frankfurt, the third shop pitching for the business. The final choice was made by Bernhard Glock, European media director at P&G.

Most of the company’s media planning was previously handled by its German creative roster shops, with Saatchi & Saatchi responsible for certain brands such as Ariel, Oil of Olay and Pampers. MediaCom, meanwhile, manages media buying.

The shake-up of P&G’s European media planning activity looks set to continue – further appointments are expected in Scandinavia, Italy and Spain in the near future.
