Anti-Procter & Gamble public rallies in New York, Los Angeles and P&G’s home town, Cincinatti, will today urge a consumer boycott of the company’s products.

The rallies are the culmination of the five-month long strike by commercial actors. They target P&G because the fmcg giant has continued to shoot commercials with non-union performers and is an influential member of the advertiser/agency Joint Policy Committee.

Co-ordinated by the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists, the New York rally in Bryant Park has a star-studded cast including Richard Dreyfuss, Tim Robbins, Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon. Supporting the stars will be John Sweeney, president of the AFL-CIO, which has endorsed the P&G boycott.

Meantime, in Cincinatti, the SAG/AFTRA rally is timed to coincide with P&G's shareholders meeting at noon today. The rally will announce the list of products to be boycotted.
