SIR STANLEY KALMS, chairman of Dixons Stores Group, piously refuted allegations that his stores are overcharging for PCs, insisting that he would welcome an inquiry by the Office of Fair Trading as an opportunity to prove his innocence. Allegations of overcharging by Dixons, described by Stan-Boy as an 'absurdity', have mushroomed since the UK chain was fingered for charging 'ridiculous margins' at November's Comdex Fair in Las Vegas by the chief executive of Intel. The OFT confirmed it is to probe the personal computer retail market at the request of former trade and industry secretary Peter (Gissa mortgage, Geoff) Mandelson, although it has yet to decide on the level of inquiry.
