O’Brien Named New IAA Director General

25 May 2001

Walter O’Brien Junior (66), executive director of the Privacy Leadership Initiative in New York, has been appointed director general of the International Advertising Association as from July 1. He succeeds Norman Vale (71), incumbent since 1990.

Says O’Brien: "Many people believe advertising is the Wicked Witch of the West. The IAAA has a great role to play in dispelling that perception. Free society is about choice and advertising has always been about choice."

Vale leaves the IAA to take the new post of managing director at Morgan Anderson International in New York, a division of Morgan Anderson Consulting.
