Oz Online Advertising Growth Slows

26 November 2007

SYDNEY: After several bonanza years the growth in Australia's online advertising market appears to be slowing.

Figures released by PricewaterhouseCoopers show marketers spent a record A$347 million($302m; €204m; £147m) during Q3, a rise of 32% on the same period last year.

The growth, although impressive, is well below the 60% increase averaged over the past three years, reports the Internet Advertising Bureau, which expects online adspend to end 2007 at A$1.4 billion.

Search and directories are the fastest-growing areas, with year-on-year growth of 53% - more than double that of display advertising which grew by 24% in Q3. Classified ads climbed 13%.

Predictions for growth in 2008 are hovering around the 40% mark.
