Two Russian cosmonauts on Monday removed a placard showing the Russian flag from the outside of the international space station, 250 miles above Earth, and replaced it with a foot-square ad for US-based photography firm Eastman Kodak.
Both the flag and the Kodak banner, which reads ‘Take Pictures. Further’, are part of a scientific experiment to test the durability of the material from which they are made.
Last year, Kodak signed a deal with the Russian Space Agency to set up a website providing views of the space station’s construction. Part of the agreement was to erect a sign showing the Kodak logo.
