Omnicom Swoops on Amsterdam Hotshop 180

04 December 2006

NEW YORK: Much-lauded independent creative boutique 180 Amsterdam was last week ingested by Omnicom, the world's largest marketing agency network.

Founded in 1998 by Alex Melvin, Guy Hayward and Chris Mendola, the Amsterdam shop is a constant collector of ephemera on the international awards circuit - its reception replete with Lions, Effies and other agency objects of desire.

Omnicom's move was likely triggered by 180's recent joint win with BBDO of the $56 million (€42.05m; £288.29m) Sony Electronics America account. It also shares the global Adidas account with another Omnicom shop TBWA\Worldwide.

In hype overdrive Omnicom president/ceo John Wren crowed: "Led by an outstanding management team, 180 is at the leading edge of international creativity. We are delighted to welcome 180 to our portfolio of award-winning, world-class creative agencies."
